How real mechanics helped build Auxo Workshop - Auxo Software

When we set out to build Auxo Workshop, we knew we had to create something that had been shaped by real mechanics. From day one, Auxo Workshop had to serve the needs of the industry it was built for. That’s why, before launching it publicly, we put it through rigorous user testing to get it just right.

In early 2024, after just a year of product development, we were finally ready to unveil the first version of Auxo Workshop to a small group of trusted mechanics for alpha and beta testing. Alpha testing is the initial phase where the software is tested by a small group of users to identify issues. They also help us with feedback and improving core functionality.

Beta testing usually follows and involves a larger group to make sure the experience is great, and ready for wider release. We wanted to make sure Auxo Workshop not only met the workshop’s needs, but also exceeded their expectations in terms of ease and functionality.

Starting in April 2024, we began seeking out smaller, independent workshops, not yet using any other workshop management software. These “neighbourhood” workshops were most suited to provide feedback on Auxo Workshop’s first iteration.

The first workshop to take the leap with us was Tavita & Sons. As the weeks rolled on, more and more workshops joined as alpha testers, and their feedback—brutally honest at times—helped us iron out any initial kinks.

To progress to beta, we needed our alpha testers to use Auxo Workshop for at least 14 straight days without hitting any major roadblocks. We also wanted to know that they were happy enough with the software to keep using it after the trial phase. Their feedback shaped everything from how we onboard new users, to the design of key features that are now central to Auxo Workshop’s success.

We forged strong relationships with these early adopters, many of whom continue to work closely with us today to ensure that Auxo Workshop continues to meet their needs.

Feedback like this from Hamza of White Swan Motors in Auckland, one of our early alpha users, gave us the confidence we needed to move ahead into the beta phase:

In the beta phase, we needed to make sure Auxo Workshop was ready for a larger audience in the real world. We onboarded more workshops to test new features, provide feedback, and further refine the software. The beta phase allowed us to see Auxo Workshop in action across a broader range of workshop types.

During this phase, we introduced exciting features like online bookings. This feature quickly became a hit, especially when combined with reminders. Lisa Jones from Progressive Automotive in Tauranga noted:

User feedback reassured us that the software was not only user-friendly but also equipped with valuable features that could drive growth for workshops. This gave us the confidence to move forward with our wider launch.

We didn’t stop seeking feedback once the testing phases were over. Post-launch, we formed an ongoing user feedback group to keep Auxo Workshop evolving alongside the ever-changing needs of the automotive repair industry.

Sharad from Browns Bay Tyres recently praised the software’s intuitive interface and time-saving design. Most importantly, he told us about how it gave him more time to do what he loved – working on vehicles:

Auxo Workshop is more than just another tool for mechanics. It’s industry owned, designed, developed and tested by MTA members. With ongoing feedback and collaboration from our users, Auxo Workshop will continue to evolve to meet the needs of workshops across Australasia – and beyond.
